Our Donors

Tidewater Community College donors represent a spectrum of individuals, companies, and foundations. Among all the causes and organizations they support, they choose to support TCC, and we are most appreciative. Meet just a few of our donors.

Hampton Roads Community Foundation

The Hampton Roads Community Foundation is a longtime supporter of TCC. Under Dr. Deborah M. DiCroce, its president and CEO (second from right), it has focused its considerable energy on the economic development and resilience of Hampton Roads, which aligns with TCC's mission to train the 21st century workforce the region needs. The Hampton Roads Community Foundation was honored in 2017 with the Chancellor's Award for Leadership in Philanthropy.

Stephen B. Ballard

The owner and founder of S.B. Ballard Construction Company is involved in a variety of civic and philanthropic activities in Hampton Roads. Among his board memberships, Mr. Ballard sits on TCC’s Educational Foundation Board. Through the generosity of Stephen and his wife, BJ, the Virginia Beach Child Development Center was renovated and expanded, and financial assistance for child care made available to TCC students.

The Beazley Foundation

In 1968, Fred W. Beazley donated the site of Frederick College near the Portsmouth-Suffolk line to the Commonwealth of Virginia for a community college, which became TCC. The Beazley Foundation has been led since 2002 by Portsmouth native Richard S. Bray. The Beazley Foundation made the largest gift ever to TCC, $1.4 million, to establish the Beazley School of Nursing on the Portsmouth Campus, and it continues to fund nursing scholarships. The foundation also funds for First College, a dual-enrollment program for Portsmouth Public School students.

Pat & Doug Perry Foundation

For more than 35 years, the Perrys, both Norfolk natives, have preferred to remain behind the scenes while donating their time and money to a multitude of organizations through their philanthropic foundation. Their generous gift helped TCC renovate the kitchens for the culinary program, purchase industry grade freezers, ovens, refrigerators, and other equipment.

Batten Foundation

In 2005, Frank Batten Sr. made a $1 million gift to TCC to support the creation of the Batten Faculty Development Centers and the Batten Fellows Program. The centers provide technological and instructional needs through workshops, one-on-one coaching, and on-demand learning through a video library. Jane Batten is a Hampton Roads native and, like her late husband, a long-time philanthropist with a passion for education.
